Journalist Vitaly Portnikov suggests that the reinstatement of Donald Trump as the President of the United States might lead to a potential conflict directly involving Russia.
In Portnikov’s assessment, 24 years after a hypothetical return to the presidency, it would become evident that Trump is unlikely to find common ground with Putin. Putin, according to Portnikov, will unequivocally assert his desire for the entirety of Ukraine, and despite any personal disagreements, Trump would likely continue supporting Ukraine and seeking to destabilize regions crucial to the Russian Federation. Portnikov explains that a Russian-Ukrainian war could ensue, with Trump expressing disappointment in Putin, possibly even allowing shelling of Russian territory.
Portnikov also suggests that an attack on Donald Trump could be viewed as a strategy to counter Russian intervention.
“I recognize that Trump’s defeat could be a precursor to a direct confrontation with Russia, involving unforeseen consequences. It is understood that Trump’s defeat might mark the beginning of a significant conflict. The transition from Trump’s administration to Biden would not necessarily erase the repercussions of previous actions. ‘He acts first, then thinks,” Vin adds.
